Riverside Brookfield High School – Superintendent and Principal     2001 - 2009

During the eight years I served as educational leader, this school became one of the most improved and highest achieving high schools in Illinois and the nation. Rick DuFour, one of America’s top educational leaders, wrote that “as superintendent/principal, Jack led Riverside Brookfield to become perhaps the greatest success story in Illinois.”

We used a team approach to achieve an increase in graduation rates from a ten year average (1991-2001) of 90% to an average graduation rate of 98.5% over the last six years.  Scores on the Prairie State Achievement Exam went from the low to mid 60’s for meets standards to mid 70’s including scores for Latino/Hispanic students that ranked in the top 1% out of 650 Illinois high schools.  The school was not ranked in the top 30 in Illinois or top 1,000 in the country prior to 2001, but for the last four years the school has ranked in the top 3 in Illinois and the top 150 in America based on the Newsweek Challenge Index. This includes a 400% increase in student participation and Advanced Placement Scholars.

We also implemented a series of successful schools within a school, maintained an exceptional relationship between the teachers’ union, administration and board of education, and passed a

$ 63 million referendum on the first ballot.

Carl Sandburg High School – Principal    1996-2001

In the five years I served as principal of this school of 3,400 students, our team of talented faculty members, parents and students significantly increased student achievement and test scores. We worked together to implement many highly successful and innovative programs to benefit our students including 8 unique and successful schools within the school.

Waterloo East High School –Waterloo Iowa – Principal   1994- 1996

Our team was successful in significantly increasing the quality of the learning environment. We improved the reputation of the school, significantly improved staff morale, and realized increases in student achievement.

Notre Dame High School – Chicago –Principal     1991-1994

I served as educational leader with an extremely dedicated team that helped our school to realize significant gains in enrollment, reputation, and academic achievement.

Marist High School – Chicago – Teacher/Coach/Curriculum Development  1988 - 1991

I served as a teacher and basketball coach and enjoyed every minute of it. I developed the Honors Program in Rhetoric where over 120 students published their work over a one year period of time.

Clay Elementary School – Chicago – Teacher (disability leave)  1985 -1986
